These sons of Asaph were not only known for their musical abilities but also for their prophetic giftings. The mention of them prophesying according to the order of the king highlights their divine appointment and the significance of their role within the spiritual leadership of Israel. The word "prophesied" in this verse is crucial as it denotes not only predicting the future but also speaking forth the words of God. The mention of Asaph being under the hands of himself suggests a hierarchical structure within the lineage, where the sons would follow in their father's footsteps.
