Book of 1 Corinthians - Chapter 10 - Verse 16

10:16
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Meaning

This verse from 1 Corinthians 10:16 highlights the significance of the act of communion in Christian practice. The cup of blessing, which is blessed during the communion ritual, symbolizes the blood of Christ shed for the forgiveness of sins. By partaking in the cup, believers are acknowledging their unity with Christ through His sacrifice. Similarly, the breaking of bread in communion represents the body of Christ, broken for believers. When Christians partake in the bread, they are symbolically participating in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and affirming their connection to His body, the Church. The verse emphasizes the spiritual union believers have with Christ and with one another through the shared act of partaking in communion. It serves as a reminder of the importance of remembering Christ's sacrifice and the unity it brings among believers.
