Book of 1 John - Chapter 5 - Verse 13

5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Meaning

John, the writer of this verse, is addressing believers in Jesus Christ, encouraging them to have confidence in their salvation. By stating that he has written these words so that they may "know" they have eternal life, John is emphasizing the certainty of salvation for those who believe in the name of the Son of God. This assurance is important for believers to hold on to, especially during times of doubt or struggle. By trusting in Jesus and His sacrifice for their sins, believers can rest assured that they have eternal life in Him.

Furthermore, John's intention in writing these words is not just for believers to have assurance of their salvation, but also to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ. By believing in the name of the Son of God, believers are continually growing in their relationship with Him and in their understanding of His identity and mission. Through this verse, John is reminding believers of the importance of ongoing faith and trust in Jesus, as it is through Him alone that they have eternal life. In essence, this verse serves as a powerful reminder to believers of the security and significance of their faith in Jesus Christ.
