9:23
And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.

Meaning

In this verse from the book of 1 Samuel, Samuel instructs the cook to bring him the portion of food that he had given him earlier. This interaction between Samuel and the cook sheds light on the responsibilities and hierarchy within the household. Samuel, as a prophet and leader, had the authority to ask for what was rightfully his. By asking for the portion of food that he had given to the cook, Samuel is ensuring that the cook fulfills his duty and respects the agreement they had made. This verse also illustrates the importance of accountability and integrity in fulfilling one's obligations, no matter how small they may seem. It serves as a reminder to uphold promises and commitments, even in the most mundane tasks, as they reflect one's character and credibility. Samuel's instructions to the cook emphasize the significance of respecting agreements and following through on commitments.

Theological Overview

In this verse from the book of 1 Samuel, Samuel instructs the cook to bring him the portion of food that he had previously given him. The word 'portion' in this context could refer to a specific amount or serving of food that was set aside for Samuel. This word can also be used in a more symbolic sense, representing the idea of God providing for His servants and giving them their share or portion. In a theological interpretation, this verse could be seen as a reminder of God's faithfulness and provision for His people. Just as Samuel expected the cook to bring him the portion he had set aside, we can trust that God will also provide for our needs according to His promises. This verse highlights the importance of obedience and trust in God's provision, knowing that He will always give us our portion in due time.
