The high place was a place typically associated with divine encounters and communication, highlighting the divine nature of Saul's kingship. By communing on the top of the house, Samuel and Saul were able to have a private and intimate discussion about the responsibilities and expectations that came with Saul's new role as king. This exchange was pivotal in setting the stage for Saul's reign and demonstrates the importance of mentorship and guidance in leadership roles. Overall, this verse underscores the transition of power and the beginning of Saul's journey as the king of Israel.
