Book of 1 Thessalonians - Chapter 5 - Verse 7

5:7
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

Meaning

In this verse, the apostle Paul is addressing the behavior of people during the night. He contrasts those who are asleep with those who are drunk, emphasizing that both activities typically take place during the nighttime. The Bible often uses the metaphor of darkness to represent sin and spiritual ignorance. In this context, the verse may be seen as a warning against indulging in behaviors that are associated with darkness and lack of awareness. It serves as a reminder to stay vigilant and to refrain from activities that can lead to spiritual blindness and moral decay. By highlighting the connection between sleep and drunkenness with the night, Paul is urging believers to live in the light of truth and righteousness, rather than giving in to the temptations of the darkness.
