Book of 1 Timothy - Chapter 4 - Verse 14

4:14
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Meaning

This verse urges believers not to ignore the spiritual gifts bestowed upon them. The mention of the gifts being given by prophecy and through the laying on of hands by the presbytery highlights the importance of these gifts within the Christian community. The phrase "the gift that is in thee" suggests that each individual possesses a unique gift or talent that has been divinely inspired. It serves as a reminder to cultivate and utilize these gifts for the benefit of others and to fulfill one's purpose within the church. The presbytery, which refers to a group of church elders, plays a role in recognizing and affirming these gifts. By acknowledging and embracing these spiritual gifts, believers can actively contribute to the growth and edification of the church body, fulfilling their role in God's plan.
