Theological Overview

One theological interpretation of this verse suggests that the apostle Paul is expressing his confidence in his own actions and decisions, which are guided by his commitment to the gospel. By stating, "But what I do, that I will do," Paul asserts his determination to continue his work without being swayed by external pressures or criticism. He emphasizes the importance of his actions serving a specific purpose, which is to prevent those who seek to undermine his authority from finding any grounds for accusation or criticism. This interpretation highlights Paul's strategic approach to his ministry, ensuring that his actions are always aligned with the message of Christ and aimed at upholding the integrity of his work. The verse also underscores the contrast between those who boast in their own accomplishments and those who rely on the grace and power of God, as Paul alludes to the importance of humility and sincerity in one's service to God.
