Book of 2 Peter - Chapter 1 - Verse 14

1:14
Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

Meaning

In this verse, the Apostle Peter is reflecting on his impending death. The phrase "put off this my tabernacle" refers to Peter's body, which he sees as a temporary dwelling place for his soul. He acknowledges that his time on earth is limited and that he will soon have to leave this earthly "tent" behind. Peter draws a parallel to how Jesus Christ had foretold his own death, implying that Peter has also received a similar revelation about his fate. By using the term "tabernacle," Peter is emphasizing the temporary nature of our physical bodies in contrast to the eternal nature of the soul. This verse serves as a reminder for all believers that life on earth is temporary and that we must prepare our hearts for the eternal life to come. It encourages us to live with an awareness of our mortality and to prioritize our relationship with God above all else.
