Meaning

This verse from the book of 2 Peter discusses the consequences of unrighteous behavior and the deceitfulness of false teachers who indulge in sinful pleasures. The phrase "And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness" indicates that those who engage in immoral conduct will ultimately face the consequences of their actions. The verse also describes these individuals as "spots and blemishes" who participate in revelry and deceit while pretending to be righteous in the presence of others. By pointing out the hypocrisy of these individuals, the verse serves as a warning to believers to be wary of those who lead a double life and to avoid being influenced by their deceptive ways. The imagery of "sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you" emphasizes the idea that false teachers may appear to be enjoying fellowship with believers, but in reality, they are only interested in serving their own selfish desires. Overall, this verse reminds readers to be discerning and to stay true to their faith in the face of temptation and deception.
