Book of 2 Samuel - Chapter 12 - Verse 25

12:25
And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

Meaning

When King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and arranged for her husband Uriah to be killed in battle, God sent the prophet Nathan to confront him with his sin. Nathan used a clever analogy involving a rich man who stole a poor man's only lamb to show David the severity of his actions. After David repented, God forgave him but told him that there would still be consequences for his sin. As a token of both forgiveness and judgement, God instructed Nathan to give David's newborn son a new name, Jedidiah, which means "beloved of the Lord." This act symbolized God's continued love for David, despite his transgressions, and also served as a reminder of the price David had to pay for his sin. The naming of Jedidiah was a powerful lesson for David and a poignant moment in his relationship with God.
