Book of Acts - Chapter 10 - Verse 17

10:17
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

Meaning

When Peter saw the vision of the sheet filled with animals descending from heaven, he was left confused as to its meaning. In this context, the term "doubted in himself" can be interpreted as Peter trying to make sense of the vision within himself, grappling with its significance. It was a moment of uncertainty and introspection for Peter as he pondered the implications of the vision he had just experienced. Meanwhile, as Peter was contemplating the vision, messengers from Cornelius arrived at Simon's house, seeking Peter. This juxtaposition highlights the divine timing and orchestration at play, where Peter's internal contemplation coincided with the arrival of Cornelius' men, setting the stage for a pivotal moment in the Book of Acts. This moment foreshadows the breaking down of barriers between Jew and Gentile, as Peter's vision and the arrival of the messengers foreshadow the transformative events that are about to unfold.
