Book of Daniel - Chapter 12 - Verse 9

12:9
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Meaning

In this verse from the Book of Daniel, the prophet Daniel is being told by an angel that the words he has spoken are sealed and will remain closed until the time of the end. This implies that the message Daniel received is meant for a future time when it will be better understood or fulfilled. The phrase "till the time of the end" suggests that the meaning of the words will be revealed when the events prophesied come to pass. This verse highlights the importance of patience and trust in God's timing, as some messages may not be immediately clear or relevant but will become so in due course. It also emphasizes the mysterious nature of prophecy and the need for interpretation based on context and historical events. As readers of the Bible, we are encouraged to study and reflect on the scriptures, knowing that their true significance may only become evident in the fullness of time.

Theological Overview

In the book of Daniel, this verse conveys a message from the angel to Daniel, reassuring him that the words he has received are of great importance and significance. The angel instructs Daniel to go his way, as the words he has been given are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. This indicates that the message Daniel received is meant for a specific future time when it will be fully understood and revealed. The theological interpretation of this verse suggests that God's plan unfolds gradually, with certain revelations being hidden until the appropriate moment. The phrase "closed up and sealed" implies that the knowledge contained in the words given to Daniel is not meant to be fully understood at that time, but will eventually be unveiled at a later, more suitable time. This verse highlights the importance of patience and trust in God's timing, as well as the concept of divine revelation being unveiled according to God's ultimate plan.
