Book of Exodus - Chapter 12 - Verse 4

12:4
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

Meaning

This verse from the book of Exodus outlines the instructions for the observance of the Passover feast. The Passover lamb was a central element of the feast, symbolizing the sacrifice made by the Israelites to spare their firstborn sons from the final plague in Egypt. The verse emphasizes the importance of unity and community in the celebration of the Passover. If one household is too small to consume an entire lamb, they are encouraged to share it with their neighbors. This not only ensures that no part of the lamb goes to waste but also fosters a sense of togetherness and support among the community. Each person is instructed to take only what they need, emphasizing the idea of fairness and equality in the distribution of resources. By following these guidelines, the Israelites were able to come together as a community to commemorate their shared history and faith.
