Book of Exodus - Chapter 22 - Verse 7

22:7
If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

Meaning

This verse from the Bible emphasizes the importance of being responsible with the possessions and trust that others bestow upon you. When someone entrusts their money or belongings to a neighbor for safekeeping, it is expected that they will take proper care to ensure their security. In the event that these items are stolen, the thief must be held accountable for their actions and repay double the amount that was taken. This serves as a deterrent to theft and reinforces the concept of personal responsibility and integrity in all transactions. It also highlights the biblical principle of restitution, where wrongs committed against others must be remedied through appropriate compensation. Overall, this verse teaches us the value of honesty, trustworthiness, and justice in our interactions with others, leading to a more harmonious and reliable community.
