Book of Exodus - Chapter 26 - Verse 2

26:2
The length of one curtain shall be eight and twenty cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits: and every one of the curtains shall have one measure.

Meaning

In this verse, the measurements of the curtains for the tabernacle are described in detail. The length of each curtain is specified as eight and twenty cubits, while the breadth is four cubits. These measurements were crucial for the construction of the tabernacle, as they needed to be precise to ensure that each curtain fit together properly. The curtains were an essential component of the tabernacle, serving as both a functional and symbolic element. They provided privacy for the sacred space inside and separated it from the outer areas. Additionally, the curtains were symbolic of the separation between the holiness of God and the imperfection of humanity. By following the specific measurements outlined in this verse, the Israelites were emphasizing the importance of attention to detail and obedience to God's instructions in their worship and reverence for Him. Each curtain was to have a uniform measurement, emphasizing unity and consistency in the construction of the tabernacle.
