Book of Exodus - Chapter 27 - Verse 3

27:3
And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basins, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass.

Meaning

The verse you are referring to is from Exodus 27:3, where God instructs Moses on the specific materials and items to be used in the construction of the altar for burnt offerings. In this verse, it is mentioned that the pans for receiving ashes, shovels, basins, fleshhooks, and firepans should all be made of brass. Each of these items had a specific purpose in the sacrificial rituals of the Israelites. The pans were used to catch the ashes that resulted from the burnt offerings, symbolizing the purification and cleansing brought about by the sacrifices. The shovels were used to remove the ashes from the altar, signifying the removal of sins and guilt. The basins were used for collecting blood for sprinkling, linking the sacrifices to atonement for sins. The fleshhooks were used to handle the meat of the offerings and distribute it accordingly. Lastly, the firepans were used to carry live coals for the burning of incense, symbolizing the prayers and devotion of the people. By specifying that all these vessels be made of brass, a strong and durable material, God emphasized the importance and sanctity of the sacrificial rituals.
