Book of Ezekiel - Chapter 34 - Verse 5

34:5
And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.

Meaning

This verse from the book of Ezekiel highlights the consequences of a lack of leadership and guidance. The image of a scattered flock without a shepherd illustrates a sense of disarray and vulnerability. In ancient times, shepherds were responsible for protecting their flock from predators, guiding them to safe grazing grounds, and ensuring their well-being. Without a shepherd to care for them, the flock becomes easy prey for the beasts of the field. This verse serves as a metaphor for the importance of strong leadership in guiding and protecting a community. It emphasizes the role of leaders in providing direction, protection, and support for those under their care. In the absence of a shepherd, individuals may be left vulnerable and exposed to danger.
