Theological Overview

This verse from Ezekiel 36:5 expresses the Lord GOD's anger and jealousy towards the nations that have mistreated His chosen people and taken possession of His land. The mention of God's jealousy emphasizes His intense passion for His people and His land, and His righteous anger towards those who seek to harm them. The word "heathen" in this verse refers to the nations who do not acknowledge or follow God. The reference to Idumea alludes to Edom, a nation that descended from Esau, the brother of Jacob. The people of Idumea had taken advantage of Israel's misfortune and celebrated their downfall with malicious intent, planning to seize their land for themselves. God's proclamation against these nations serves as a warning of the consequences of oppressing His people and defiling His land. It also highlights God's commitment to protecting and restoring His chosen people despite the actions of their enemies. This verse reminds us of the Lord's sovereign authority over the nations and His unwavering love for His people.
