Book of Genesis - Chapter 11 - Verse 8

11:8
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Meaning

After the Tower of Babel was built, the people attempted to reach the heavens in their pride and arrogance. To prevent this from happening, the LORD scattered them across the earth, causing confusion and disruption to their plans. By dispersing them and confusing their languages, the LORD effectively halted their construction of the city and tower. This event serves as a reminder of the consequences of human pride and disobedience, as well as the power and sovereignty of God. It also highlights the importance of humility and obedience in the eyes of the LORD. The scattering of the people at Babel ultimately led to the diversity of languages and cultures existing in the world today. The LORD's actions in this verse demonstrate His authority and control over all of creation, as well as His desire for humanity to submit to His will and purposes.
