Book of Genesis - Chapter 15 - Verse 9

15:9
And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

Meaning

God instructs Abraham to take specific animals for a sacrifice. The heifer, she-goat, ram, turtledove, and young pigeon were all considered valuable offerings in ancient times. Each animal symbolizes different aspects of worship and atonement. The heifer represents purification and sacrifice, the she-goat signifies the importance of obedience, the ram symbolizes power and strength, the turtledove is a symbol of innocence and purity, and the young pigeon represents gentleness and peace. By offering these animals, Abraham was demonstrating his devotion to God and his willingness to follow His commands. This act of sacrifice was a way for Abraham to show his commitment and faith in God, reaffirming the covenant between them. It also foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice that would be made by Jesus Christ in the New Testament, symbolizing redemption and forgiveness of sins. Through this act, Abraham exhibited his trust in God's plan and his willingness to obey Him fully.
