Book of Genesis - Chapter 2 - Verse 23

2:23
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Meaning

Adam's declaration in this verse reflects the deep sense of connection and unity between man and woman as they were created by God. The phrase "bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh" signifies the intimate relationship between Adam and Eve, emphasizing their equality and similarities in nature. By naming Eve "Woman," Adam acknowledges her as an essential part of himself, created from his own body. This act of naming also symbolizes Adam's authority and responsibility over Eve, as he is designated as her companion and leader in their shared journey. Through this verse, the Bible captures the essence of marriage and the divine purpose of uniting man and woman in partnership and mutual respect.
