Book of Genesis - Chapter 24 - Verse 15

24:15
And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

Meaning

This verse from the Book of Genesis describes the moment when Rebekah, the future wife of Isaac, arrived at the well where Abraham's servant was waiting. As soon as the servant had finished his prayer, Rebekah appeared with her pitcher on her shoulder. The mention of Rebekah's lineage - being born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother - establishes her connection to Abraham's family, showing that she comes from a respected and trustworthy lineage. This detail is significant because it sets the stage for the important role Rebekah will play in the continuation of God's plan for Abraham's descendants. The sight of Rebekah approaching the well at precisely the right moment illustrates God's providence and timing in orchestrating events to fulfill His promises. It also serves as a foreshadowing of the significant role Rebekah will play in the future as she becomes Isaac's wife and the mother of Jacob and Esau. Thus, this verse not only highlights Rebekah's arrival but also sets the stage for the unfolding of God's plan through her actions and decisions.
