Book of Genesis - Chapter 32 - Verse 28

32:28
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Meaning

When the verse says "Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel," it signifies a significant transformation in Jacob's life. The name change from Jacob to Israel symbolizes a change in identity and character. Jacob's old name was associated with deception and deceit, while the name Israel signifies a prince who has power with God and men. This change reflects Jacob's personal growth and spiritual journey, as he matures from a deceiver to a righteous man who wrestles with God and prevails. The new name Israel also represents a new beginning for Jacob, a fresh start in his relationship with God and his interactions with others.
