Meaning

When Joseph's brothers found a silver cup in Benjamin's sack, they were taken aback and questioned why Joseph would accuse them of theft. As they spoke to Joseph's steward, they could not understand why their lord would suggest that they would steal from him. They adamantly declared their innocence and expressed their shock at the accusation. This verse shows the deep sense of loyalty and honesty that Joseph's brothers possessed. They were horrified at the mere thought of committing such a crime and felt strongly about defending their reputation. This reaction highlights the strong moral values that guided their actions and decisions. Even in a challenging situation, they stood firm in their belief of doing what is right. This verse serves as a reminder to always stay true to one's principles and values, even in the face of adversity.
