Book of Genesis - Chapter 47 - Verse 23

47:23
Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.

Meaning

In this verse, Joseph is speaking to the people of Egypt who were facing a severe famine. He informs them that he has bought them and their land on behalf of Pharaoh. By doing this, Joseph is essentially acting as an agent of the Pharaoh, who was the ruler of Egypt at that time. This act shows Joseph's authority and power as the second-in-command in the land. He then goes on to provide the people with seed so that they can sow their land and continue to produce food, despite the difficult circumstances they are facing. This gesture not only ensures the survival of the people during the famine but also demonstrates Joseph's wisdom and compassion as a leader. Joseph's actions in this verse highlight his ability to manage resources effectively and his commitment to caring for the welfare of the people under his charge.
