49:2
Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

Meaning

In this verse from the book of Genesis, Jacob is addressing his sons, the twelve tribes of Israel. He is urging them to come together and listen to him as their father, Israel. By calling them to gather and hear him, Jacob is preparing to share important instructions, blessings, and prophecies for each of his sons before his death. This verse serves as a call to unity and obedience, as Jacob seeks to impart wisdom and guidance to his children. The gathering of the sons of Jacob symbolizes the importance of family unity and the passing down of knowledge and tradition from one generation to the next. By hearkening to their father Israel, the sons of Jacob show respect and honor for their patriarch and are reminded of their heritage and the promises of God to their ancestors. This verse highlights the significance of listening to the teachings and wisdom passed down from previous generations, and reflects the theme of family and unity that runs throughout the Bible.
