Book of Hebrews - Chapter 6 - Verse 4
Meaning
This verse from the book of Hebrews (6:4) speaks about the concept of falling away or apostasy from the faith. The author is warning believers about the severe consequences of turning away from God after experiencing His grace and understanding the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The phrase "those who were once enlightened" refers to individuals who have been given spiritual insight and understanding through the teachings of the Gospel. "Tasted of the heavenly gift" suggests that they have experienced the blessings and salvation offered by God. "Made partakers of the Holy Ghost" indicates that they have received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, becoming active participants in the work of God's kingdom. Despite having these profound spiritual experiences, the verse warns that if they choose to turn away from the faith, it would be impossible for them to return because they would be crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public shame.
