Book of Hosea - Chapter 10 - Verse 11

10:11
And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.

Meaning

This verse from the book of Hosea in the Old Testament prophesies about the future of the tribes of Ephraim, Judah, and Jacob. It uses the metaphor of an ox or heifer that is well-trained and loves to tread out the grain, symbolizing Ephraim's potential and capabilities. However, despite Ephraim's strengths, God declares his intention to assert his authority over Ephraim by putting a yoke on her fair neck and making her work. This imagery signifies God's judgment and discipline towards the tribe of Ephraim for their disobedience and waywardness.

The verse goes on to talk about Judah and Jacob, stating that Judah will plow and Jacob will break his clods. This may suggest a shift in roles and responsibilities within the tribes, with Judah taking on the role of laboring in the fields while Jacob is tasked with breaking up the hardened ground for planting. Overall, this verse serves as a reminder of God's sovereignty and his ability to humble and discipline his people, as well as redirecting them towards a path of righteousness and obedience.
