This serves as a reminder that no matter one's status or wealth, everyone is subject to the universal experience of death. The verse also conveys the idea that in this particular scenario, the deceased will not receive the customary funeral rites or mourning rituals. The absence of a proper burial and mourning reflects a lack of respect and honor typically accorded to the deceased. The phrase "cut themselves" and "make themselves bald" refers to the practices of mourning in ancient cultures, suggesting that even these customary acts would not be observed for those in this land. Overall, this verse serves as a stark depiction of a society in turmoil and highlights the consequences of their actions.
