Book of Jeremiah - Chapter 22 - Verse 30

22:30
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Meaning

This verse from the book of Jeremiah chapter 22, is a message from the Lord to King Jeconiah, also known as Coniah, of Judah. The Lord declares that Jeconiah will be childless and will not prosper in his days. This declaration stems from the fact that the rulers of Judah had strayed from the ways of the Lord, leading to corruption and idolatry. Therefore, Jeconiah's descendants would not have the privilege of sitting on the throne of David and ruling over Judah. This divine judgment serves as a warning to leaders to govern with righteousness and to adhere to the commandments of God, or face the consequences of disobedience. It is a sobering reminder of the importance of obedience and faithfulness to God's will in order to ensure the prosperity and longevity of a dynasty.
