Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

Meaning

In this verse from the book of Jeremiah, the LORD of hosts warns against false prophets who are giving messages not from Him, but from their own desires and imaginations. The text emphasizes the importance of discerning the true word of God from the self-serving words of deceitful prophets. The LORD cautions the people to not listen to these false prophets as their messages are vain and will only lead to emptiness and delusion. By heeding the words of these prophets who speak from their own hearts, one can be led astray from the true path set forth by the LORD. Therefore, it is vital for believers to be vigilant and listen carefully to ensure they are following the word of God as conveyed through His true prophets. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking authentic spiritual guidance and discerning the truth from falsehood in order to remain faithful to the teachings of the LORD.
