The Lord God of hosts is warning them that because of their sinful words, He will cause destruction to come upon them. The imagery of fire in the mouth of the speaker and wood as the people symbolizes the consuming power of God's word. Just as fire devours wood, God's words will consume those who have spoken against Him. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of our words and the power they hold. It shows that God takes our speech seriously and that there are consequences for speaking falsehoods or words of rebellion. By using this metaphor of fire and wood, the verse illustrates the swift and all-consuming nature of divine judgment. It is a powerful warning to be mindful of the words we speak and to always align them with the truth and righteousness of God.
