Book of Joshua - Chapter 8 - Verse 27

8:27
Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.

Meaning

After the city of Jericho was conquered by the Israelites, they were instructed by the Lord through Joshua to take only the cattle and the spoil of the city for themselves. This directive was given to the Israelites as a command from God, emphasizing that they were not to take anything else from the city as their own. The spoils of war, including the cattle, were considered as a reward for their obedience and faith in following the instructions given to them by the Lord. By adhering to the word of the Lord and only taking what was commanded of them, the Israelites showed their trust and reliance on God's guidance in their conquest of Jericho. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of following God's commands and trusting in His plan, even when it may seem difficult or unconventional. It showcases the faithfulness of the Israelites in carrying out the will of the Lord and serves as a lesson for believers today to obey His word without question.
