Book of Leviticus - Chapter 17 - Verse 12

17:12
Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

Meaning

In this verse, the Lord instructs the children of Israel that they are not to eat blood. This commandment was given to the Israelites as a way to show reverence for the sacredness of life and to distinguish them from other nations. Blood was considered to be the essence of life, and consuming it was seen as a disrespectful act towards the Creator of life. By prohibiting the consumption of blood, God was teaching the Israelites to respect the sanctity of life and to have a deep appreciation for the gift of life. This commandment also applied to strangers living among the Israelites, emphasizing the importance of obeying God's laws regardless of one's background or beliefs. Overall, this verse serves as a reminder of the value of life and the need to honor God's commandments in all aspects of life.
