Book of Leviticus - Chapter 19 - Verse 31

19:31
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

Meaning

In this verse, God warns against seeking guidance or help from individuals who claim to have supernatural powers or abilities, such as mediums, psychics, or wizards. These people are said to have "familiar spirits," which refers to spirits or entities that they communicate with to gain knowledge or perform acts of divination. By seeking their help, one is defiling themselves and going against the commandments of the Lord. The verse emphasizes that God is the ultimate source of guidance and protection, and seeking help from anyone else is considered a form of idolatry and disobedience. It serves as a reminder to trust in God alone for guidance, rather than turning to worldly sources that may lead one astray from the path of righteousness. By following the commandments of the Lord and avoiding those who practice witchcraft or communicate with spirits, believers can remain pure and faithful to God's teachings.
