Book of Luke - Chapter 10 - Verse 20

10:20
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Meaning

As explained in this verse, believers are cautioned not to find their ultimate source of joy in the power they have over evil spirits, but rather in the fact that their names are recorded in heaven. This serves as a reminder that true joy and fulfillment come from our relationship with God and our eternal destiny in His kingdom, rather than temporary successes or abilities we may have in this world. By emphasizing the significance of our names being inscribed in heaven, the verse encourages believers to focus on their spiritual state and their eternal standing with God, rather than on earthly accomplishments or material possessions. This reminder serves to keep believers grounded in their faith and focused on the eternal rather than the temporary, fostering a sense of gratitude and humility in light of the great gift of salvation.
