Book of Luke - Chapter 22 - Verse 14

22:14
And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

Meaning

When Jesus and the twelve apostles sat down together, it marked a significant moment in their relationship and in the unfolding of God's plan. The act of sitting down together would have been a common practice during meals and gatherings in ancient times, symbolizing fellowship, unity, and intimacy among the group. By sitting down with his closest followers, Jesus was demonstrating his leadership and authority over them, as a teacher would sit while instructing his disciples. This moment also foreshadowed the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a final meal with his apostles before his crucifixion, imparting important teachings and instituting the sacrament of communion. The act of sitting down together also symbolizes the equality and unity among believers, as they come together to share in the teachings and fellowship of Christ.
