Book of Luke - Chapter 22 - Verse 4

22:4
And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

Meaning

When Judas Iscariot made the decision to betray Jesus, he went to the chief priests and captains to discuss how he could hand him over to them. This act of betrayal was a pivotal moment in the life of Jesus as it ultimately led to his crucifixion. Judas, one of Jesus' disciples, made a deal with the religious leaders to deceive and hand over Jesus in exchange for thirty pieces of silver. This action fulfilled the prophecy that one of Jesus' own would betray him. The verse highlights the darkness and deceit that can exist even among those closest to Jesus. It serves as a reminder of the fragility of human nature and the capacity for betrayal, even in the face of divine love and grace. This verse marks the beginning of the chain of events that would ultimately lead to Jesus' death on the cross.
