Book of Mark - Chapter 9 - Verse 4

9:4
And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

Meaning

When the verse says, "And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus," it is describing a significant event known as the Transfiguration. This event took place on a mountain, where Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John. The presence of Moses and Elijah with Jesus symbolizes the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets in Jesus Christ. Moses represents the Law given to the Israelites, while Elijah represents the prophetic tradition. By having Moses and Elijah appear alongside Jesus, it indicates that He is the culmination of both the Law and the Prophets. This moment also serves as a confirmation of Jesus' divinity and authority, as God's voice is heard declaring Jesus as His beloved Son. The Transfiguration provides a glimpse of Jesus' glory and serves as a foreshadowing of His eventual crucifixion and resurrection.
