Book of Matthew - Chapter 16 - Verse 3

16:3
And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Meaning

In this verse, Jesus is challenging the religious leaders of his time, calling them hypocrites for being able to predict the weather based on the signs in the sky but failing to recognize the signs of the times. Jesus is emphasizing the importance of spiritual perception and discernment. He is pointing out that while they may be able to interpret natural signs, they are unable to recognize the significance of the events happening around them in a spiritual and prophetic sense. Jesus is urging them to pay attention to the signs of the times, to be spiritually aware and alert to the messages God is sending through the circumstances and events of the world. By using the example of predicting the weather, Jesus is highlighting the need for his followers to be spiritually discerning and to understand the deeper meanings behind the events unfolding around them. This verse serves as a reminder for believers to be vigilant, to study the scriptures, and to seek understanding of God's will in their lives.
