Book of Matthew - Chapter 22 - Verse 14
Meaning
When reading the verse "For many are called, but few are chosen" from the Bible, it is important to understand the context in which it was spoken. This verse is found in the book of Matthew, in a parable told by Jesus about a king who invited guests to a wedding feast. The guests who were originally invited did not come, so the king sent out invitations to others. Many accepted the invitation, but one guest was not dressed appropriately, and he was thrown out. The verse speaks to the idea that while many are called to follow God and invited to partake in His kingdom, not all will ultimately be chosen. This can be interpreted to mean that while salvation is offered to all, only a few will truly accept it and live a life in accordance with God's will.
