Theological Overview

In this verse, Jesus rebukes his disciples for troubling a woman who had done a good deed for him. The phrase "good work" is translated from the Greek word "kalon," which denotes something beautiful, noble, or honorable. This word is often used in the New Testament to describe actions that are morally or aesthetically praiseworthy. By using this term, Jesus highlights the woman's gesture as not only good but also admirable. The theological interpretation of this verse emphasizes Jesus' appreciation for acts of kindness and generosity, regardless of societal norms or expectations. It also serves as a reminder to prioritize acts of goodness and compassion over rigid adherence to religious customs. Additionally, this verse showcases Jesus' compassion and empathy towards individuals who are marginalized or criticized by society, as he defends the woman's actions despite the disapproval of those around him. Overall, this passage reinforces the importance of demonstrating love and kindness towards others, following Jesus' example of valuing acts of goodness over judgment or criticism.
