The speaker, Nehemiah, chastises the people for their mistreatment of one another, emphasizing that it goes against the teachings of God. This verse underscores the importance of walking in the fear of God, which can be understood as a reverence and respect for His commandments. By doing so, one not only pleases God but also avoids bringing reproach upon themselves in the eyes of their enemies.
