Book of Numbers - Chapter 7 - Verse 9

7:9
But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none: because the service of the sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders.

Meaning

In this verse from the book of Numbers, it is explained that the sons of Kohath were not given any wagons by the Lord, unlike the other Levite families. The reason for this was that the Kohathites were responsible for carrying the sacred objects of the tabernacle on their shoulders. These objects included items such as the ark of the covenant, table of showbread, lampstand, altars, and other holy furnishings. The importance of this task was such that it required the utmost care and attention to ensure that these sacred items were transported safely and reverently. By bearing these objects on their shoulders, the Kohathites demonstrated their dedication to serving the sanctuary of the Lord and upholding the holiness of the tabernacle. This verse serves as a reminder of the specific roles and responsibilities assigned to each Levite family in the service of the sanctuary, highlighting the significance of their duties in maintaining the sacred space of worship.
