Book of Psalms - Chapter 32 - Verse 6

32:6
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

Meaning

This verse is a reminder of the importance of seeking God during times of trouble and distress. The phrase "For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found" emphasizes the necessity of turning to God in moments of need, before it is too late. The idea is that individuals who are considered righteous or godly will instinctively seek God's guidance and protection when faced with challenges. The second part of the verse reassures believers that in times of great turmoil and chaos, God will provide a shield of protection. The imagery of "floods of great waters" symbolizes overwhelming circumstances that threaten to consume the individual. However, the promise is that those who are faithful to God will be kept safe from harm. This verse serves as a call to action for believers to remain steadfast in prayer and trust that God will deliver them from troubles.

Theological Overview

Psalm 32:6 points to the promise of safety and protection for the godly who seek the Lord's presence in times of need. The phrase "when thou mayest be found" emphasizes the importance of seeking God while He is near and accessible. This suggests a window of opportunity in which God is particularly inclined to listen and respond to prayers. The mention of "floods of great waters" symbolizes trials, challenges, and overwhelming circumstances that may come upon individuals. Despite the threatening nature of these floods, the godly are assured that they will not come near them. This can be seen as a metaphor for God's faithfulness and provision in times of trouble. Through theological interpretation, this verse can be understood as a reminder of the divine protection and refuge available to those who faithfully seek God's presence and trust in His deliverance.
