Book of Psalms - Chapter 63 - Verse 2

63:2
To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

Meaning

This verse reflects the desire of the Psalmist to experience the power and glory of God in the same way it is revealed in the sanctuary. The sanctuary was a sacred place where God's presence was believed to dwell, and where His power and glory were most clearly manifested. The Psalmist longs for this same experience of divine presence and majesty outside of the sanctuary, in his everyday life. This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking and recognizing God's power and glory in all aspects of life, not just in specific places of worship. It serves as a reminder to believers to constantly seek out and be attentive to the ways in which God reveals Himself in the world around them. By doing so, believers can deepen their relationship with God and grow in their faith.

The word "power" in this context refers to God's infinite might and authority, while "glory" speaks of His radiant splendor and magnificence. By earnestly desiring to see God's power and glory, the psalmist shows a deep spiritual hunger and a profound reverence for God. This verse emphasizes the need for believers to seek a personal encounter with God, where His power and glory are not just theoretical concepts, but tangible realities that can be experienced in a profound and life-changing way. Through diligent prayer, worship, and meditation on His Word, believers can cultivate a deeper intimacy with God and witness His power and glory in their lives just as the psalmist did in the sanctuary.
