Book of Revelation - Chapter 6 - Verse 5

6:5
And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

Meaning

In the Book of Revelation, the opening of the third seal represents the third of the seven seals by Jesus Christ as he reveals what is to come in the future. In this verse, the third beast announces the opening of the seal, calling for John to come and witness what is about to be shown to him. John then sees a black horse, symbolizing famine and scarcity. The rider on the horse holds a pair of balances, representing the weighing of goods and the control of food distribution during times of scarcity. This imagery signifies a time of economic hardship and lack, bringing about the consequence of the previous seal which was war and bloodshed. The opening of the third seal signifies a period of judgment and tribulation on the earth as part of the End Times. It serves as a warning of the consequences of humanity's actions and the need for repentance and righteousness before God.
