Book of Exodus - Chapter 4 - Verse 9

4:9
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

Meaning

In this verse, the speaker is instructing Moses to perform a miraculous sign if the people do not believe the previous signs or listen to his words. The act of turning water into blood is a powerful demonstration of God's sovereignty and authority. By transforming the river water into blood, God is emphasizing His power over nature and His ability to bring judgment upon those who refuse to heed His words. The symbolism of blood is significant throughout the Bible, often representing sacrifice, atonement, and redemption. In this context, the turning of water into blood serves as a warning to the people to repent and turn back to God before facing the consequences of their disobedience. It is a reminder that God's judgment is swift and severe, yet He also provides opportunities for repentance and redemption. This verse showcases the importance of faith and obedience in the face of divine authority.
