Book of Ezekiel - Chapter 22 - Verse 19

22:19
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

Meaning

Within this verse from the book of Ezekiel, the Lord GOD is expressing His disappointment and anger towards the people of Jerusalem. By referring to them as "dross," which is the impurities or worthless material that is separated from metals during the refining process, God is essentially saying that the people have become corrupt and impure in His eyes. They have strayed from His teachings and have turned away from righteousness. The gathering of the people into the midst of Jerusalem signifies a coming judgment or punishment for their sins. This verse serves as a warning to the people to repent and turn back to God before it is too late. It emphasizes the importance of staying faithful and obedient to the Lord in order to avoid His wrath and receive His blessings and protection.

Theological Overview

The verse "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem." carries with it a strong theological message about the judgment of God upon the people of Jerusalem. The word "dross" refers to the impurities or worthless material that is leftover after the refining process. In this context, God is comparing the people to dross, signifying that they have become corrupt and useless. The act of gathering them into the midst of Jerusalem symbolizes God's intention to bring judgment upon them for their sins. This verse serves as a warning to the people to repent and turn back to God before it is too late. Through a theological interpretation, we can understand that God's judgment is just and necessary to purify and refine His people, ultimately leading to their redemption and restoration.
